Possum Damage

The Brushtail Possum is New Zealand's #1 Pest, having completely colonised the North Island, and further spreading in the south west of the South Island. Since the 1990's possums have been eradicated from a further 12 offshore island ranging from 1 to 2321 Ha (Hectres)

Possum Damage to Environment

Brushtail Possums are eating eggs, nestlings and adults of our native species such as the kokako, kiwi, kahu, kereru and mutton bird. This is having a severe effect on some species, causing a great decline in population - possum damage can even be held to account for the decrease in numbers of snails. T.B. is carried by possums, they eat away the native foliage needed by our native creatures.
